And how do we go about doing this? How do we balance the needs of the parent with the needs of the child? Here, we discuss the day to day reality of this in detail.

Chinese medicine theory may conflict with the perceived wisdom about what is helpful for a child. Whether or not this is the reason they are seeking treatment, it can cause enormous stress in the family, as well as contribute to poor health. The textbooks usually ascribe a poor appetite to Spleen Qi deficiency.

Free for Heaven Members. The acupuncture point si feng, is a commonly used point in paediatrics. During their paediatric training, practitioners often learn of the power of this point but are also warned of the potential dangers of using it at the wrong time. You will come away much more confident and clear about how and when to use si feng, thereby increasing your ability to help children get well and stay well.

Free for Heaven Members. Children today are said to be taking more than three times the amount of paracetamol than they were 40 years ago. It is given to children not only when they are ill, but often when they are upset or tired too. Its use has become ubiquitous. During this session we look at the energetic impacts of excessive use of paracetamol, and how we might support parents to use it more sparingly.

Free for Heaven Members. Paediatric tuina is one of the non-needle methods I turn to the most, mainly because it is so effective. In this session, we discuss how to implement it (even on wriggly two year olds), whether or not it is effective in older children and which moves are most effective for which pathologies. We share our experiences and discuss cases. NB: The first few mins were not recorded.

Free for Heaven Members. Many children, both neuro-typical and neuro-diverse, struggle with sensory processing issues of some kind. It may be a child who can’t bear loud noises, who is numb to the feeling of touch or who struggles with eating because he can’t bear the texture of foods.
