A large part of a successful pediatric practice is your engagement with parents and parental buy-in for the care you provide to their children. It starts with setting yourself as the expert in pediatrics that parents can come to in trust and confidence for the care you will provide to their children. How you do this is partially your practice approach and personality, but most parents initially come to Asian Medicine out of desperation as allopathic medicine is failing them, and therefore you need to be the beacon of hope when you first engage with them. Once the child has their first visit with you, however, the continuation of care is as important as getting them in the door in the first place.
Luriko will share her approach and experience successfully treating children for over a decade and how parents came to find her and why many commit to their child’s care after the initial visit, and the significance of pediatric patients returning at a much later date to correct course as they enter/go through puberty.
Luriko will go over:
✔️ Establishing yourself as a pediatric expert
✔️ Offering hope and empowerment to parents to continue their journey caring for their children
✔️ Managing parental expectations Setting boundaries with parents and pediatric patients
✔️ Setting up a pediatric-friendly office
✔️ Passive language messaging
✔️How to engage with your pediatric patients that keeps them coming for more
In the 30 years of my practice, I have seen many cases of precocious puberty in both male and female patients but in the last few years I have been seeing many more. Many of these patients are in their second cycle of life. Every time I see a new patient that is dealing with this issue it brings on a very involved discussion of the marid influences that may cause it and how to approach it with Chinese medicine.
In this lecture I will discuss etiological factors and the possible pathologies they create. We will then discuss pattern differentiation and the treatment options available. We will conclude with case studies to demonstrate diagnosis and treatment.

Most kids undergo emotional difficulties at some point during childhood. Various external influences may be at the root of such difficulties, some common everyday occurrences, such as sibling rivalry or the beginning of a new school, some with traumatic effect, such as parental divorce, serious illness or death of a loved one.
Even minor, seemingly trivial incidents, such as being spoken to with angry or hurtful words or witnessing a loud argument between caregivers, may cause internal turmoil. In addition to all these, and although the COVID-19 pandemic is well behind us, its effects on many children are still present.
Because the early years of life are so significant, events that happen, at this delicate phase, can influence children's emotional and energetic state years after they occur. The earlier they take place, the deeper their influence.
Our emotional experiences as children form the way we view the world, influence our health, the choices we make, our relationships and the path we take during our lives. However, children rarely seek Chinese Medicine treatment for emotional issues. Most come to the clinic manifesting their inner turbulence as physical illnesses and complaints. It is up to us as healers to single out the emotional turmoil, the root of imbalance and to treat it, thus allowing children to untangle the knot of painful memories, learn what there is to be learned of them, grow and blossom into healthy, free, resilient adults.
In this talk we will cover:
✔️ The influence of emotional difficulties in 5 Element Theory context
✔️ Various patterns involved and will learn to identify them, with aid of body and facial features.
✔️ Methods for promoting healing and recovery, using simple and easy to use modes of treatment, such as - acupuncture, nutrition, Bach remedies and essential oils.
Adolescence is powerful and often tumultuous time of life. The intense transformations taking place in the child's body and mind can be understood through close observation of the development of the Chong Mai.
The arrival of the menstrual period, the development of secondary sex characteristics, as well as more subtle changes in the bones and pelvic floor can be seen as transformations in the Chong Mai. Using the "Great Chong Mai" also provides a profound way of treating the anxiety which is increasing common among this age group.
This talk will explore the Eight Extraordinary development model and offer insights into the treatment of common problems in adolescence through engaging the Chong.
Please note that this talk will not be live. It is a pre-recorded talk which will be played on Friday 14th March 2025 at 7pm GMT. This means there will be no live Q&A with Evan following the talk, however there will be time to discuss as a group. Attendees will have the opportunity to email Evan their questions directly.
Facial diagnosis is a powerful diagnostic technique used to understand a person's health. CT Holman, a long-term student of Master Face Reader Lillian Pearl Bridges, will discuss how to utilize facial diagnosis in the TCM treatment of children.
A child's qi forms during their early years until they become a young adult. This process allows them to explore different elemental energies and discover the boundaries of their destiny path. Facial diagnosis can be used to identify various energetic states and provide information about how to guide the child to help them thrive in their exploration.
CT will cover:
✔️ The various features, lines, and colors seen on the face
✔️ How to interpret the health, personality, and talents of an individual
✔️ Reading the shen/spirit
✔️ How to differentiate the five spirits to best understand a child's qi.
This information informs the practitioner’s diagnosis, treatment, and lifestyle recommendations. Many pictures of children's faces will be shown to illustrate the variety of facial traits.
This talk is for you if you have a desire to start welcoming more young people into your practice. More than ever before, an increasing number of young people need exactly the kind of help we can give.
